If you’ve got a bit longer…

Pete Aston is based near Bristol, UK, and has lived most of his life in south west England. He grew up in a Christian home and his Christian faith has been the biggest influence on his life. His mother was a teacher and his father a church pastor, and Pete always loved exploring the hundreds of books in his dad’s study.

Pete has always loved reading and has been an avid fan of fantasy and sci-fi since reading the Chronicles of Narnia and the Hobbit at a young age. He is reluctant to admit to how many times he has read the Lord of the Rings.

Writing fiction has been a part of Pete Aston’s life since 2015, since writing the first page of Grey City in an out of date A4 hardcover diary, sitting on a bench by the side of the River Thames next to the Houses of Parliament, on a cold October day. But Pete has been writing technical reports as part of his career in electrical engineering for over two decades, explaining complicated things in simple ways.

Pete has had various jobs, all centred around the design of high voltage electrical networks and connecting renewable generation technologies. He has managed large teams and budgets of tens of millions of pounds, and is currently working for a small, well respected consultancy firm, advising large generation developers how to plug into the grid.

When not working, Pete enjoys spending time with his wife and four boys, going for walks on windy days and getting to the beach. He likes to run and go surfing (very badly), and is heavily involved in his local church. Pete also enjoys tinkering with motorcycles and occasionally riding them.

Pete first started writing to help distil his thoughts on the intersection of faith and the world around him. He could see the benefits of engineering a modern society, harnessing the potential of the created world, and doing good. But this was set against what he saw as the selfish personal ambition of individuals and the corporate greed of large companies.

It was against this backdrop that Pete first started to write Grey City. It’s the story of a man struggling to reclaim the light in a smog-covered city, fighting against powerful forces in society, battling with a personal struggle to believe anything he couldn’t understand, and evading the power of the mysterious grey cloaks. It is both Pete’s personal grappling with faith and the world, and a picture of those coming to faith for the first time.

The beginning of Grey City was the start of something bigger and the start of Pete’s love of writing fiction. Pete’s journey into fiction writing has just started and he is looking forward to the journey. You can be sure his stories are where the fantastic meets the world you thought you knew, and the mysterious rings with echoes of eternal truth.
